What is your line of work?
Bobby Lee Palmer: “I am a director and creative strategist. I connect with artists and brands to help them develop their image. By directing videos and commercials, helping brands connect with the public, and providing the framework to develop communities.”
What made you want to pursue this kind of career?
Bobby Lee Palmer: “I don’t think I’ve ever felt like I had a career. I’m consistently pivoting and evolving. I didn’t know I would be on the projects I am today a year ago, and I can’t tell you where I’ll be in the next. And I like that.”
Have you ever felt the need to leave your industry? Why?
Bobby Lee Palmer: “Many industries are intersectional. There’s film within the music industry. Advertising within the film industry. I wouldn’t know what to label the ‘industry’ I work within, and it’s hard to leave something you can’t truly define. However, if I commit to something, I see it through.”
Where do you find inspiration?
Bobby Lee Palmer: “I believe inspiration requires a certain level of deliberation. You can pull from simply what’s around you, but I believe the more informed ideas are those that come from seeking out inspiration; making an effort to indulge and explore. For me? That comes from a lot of books and a number of spontaneous decisions.”
Techniques for overcoming creative blocks
Bobby Lee Palmer: "Many creative blocks stem solely from the mind. Once you can understand what is hindering your process mentally, it simply becomes an act of determination. If you truly want to write something, if you truly want to build something, you’ll find a way. But do you want it?”
Favorite project worked on thus far?
Bobby Lee Palmer: “These two are my personal favorites.”

Bobby Lee Palmer: “The right idea with the right budget.”
Do your other interests influence your art?
Bobby Lee Palmer: “I think it’s important for all artists to be multi-hyphenate. To truly create an informed piece of art, I believe it extends beyond the skill. An understanding of other art forms and philosophies will only add depth to your work. Knowledge is awareness.”
Do you have a formal art education or are you self taught? Why?
Bobby Lee Palmer: “We should start considering a YouTube education as formal. There are near infinite ways to design your own education today.”
What message does your artwork portray?
Bobby Lee Palmer: “Every project tells a different story.”
